Content can be perceived through more than one sense.

Every meaningful image has alternative text; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.

Body text has at least 4.5:1 contrast against its background (3:1 for large text).

Video has captions and audio-only content has a transcript.

Color is never the only way information is conveyed (e.g. error fields also have text, not just red).

Page layout reflows to one column at 400% zoom without loss of content or function.

Everything works from a keyboard, with no traps and no time pressure.

Every interactive element is reachable and usable with Tab / Shift+Tab alone.

A visible focus indicator appears on every focused element — not just a browser default that's been removed.

No keyboard trap: focus can always move forward and backward through the page.

A "skip to main content" link is available at the top of the page.

Page titles are unique and describe the page's purpose.

Content and controls behave predictably.

Form fields have visible labels, not just placeholder text.

Error messages say what went wrong and how to fix it, in text near the field.

Navigation and labeling are consistent across pages.

The page's primary language is set in code (e.g. lang="en").

Content works with assistive technology, not just visually.

Headings are marked up as headings (H1–H6) in a logical order, not just styled to look like one.

Custom widgets (menus, tabs, modals, sliders) expose their role, state, and name to assistive tech (ARIA used correctly, not decoratively).

A quick pass with a screen reader (NVDA, VoiceOver) confirms the page reads in a sensible order.
